Do we abuse the internet and blame it?

Abuse of the internet can be in a diverse spectrum, diversified into consumption as well feeding of the internet with materials. In terms of consumption, it can be considered an abuse of the internet when its potentials are not put to full use, or are redirected into the opposite of the good it can achieve. On the other hand each of us can unknowingly be contributing abusively to the internet. There are of course many people whose project is just that, as they profit from it. We can however learn how to minimize this negative contribution to the internet as regular people.

Wanted: A united voice against widespread conflicts, violence

Non-violence is a human value, regardless of religious faiths, beliefs, or philosophies. In fact, it sits at the baseline of qualifying values forming the humanness of the human person, which at the same time differentiates human persons from animals. Animals lack a sense of control when their needs are not met and can easily resolve to using force.
It is important that our leaders are trained to take non-violence approaches so as to help address social issues without causing communities and persons pain or make them rethink their sense of belonging. The danger of the latter is them rising up to reclaim by force what they believe is rightfully theirs.

International day of Older Persons calls the society to help the elderly age with dignity

The World Social Report mentions the Sub-Saharan Africa region among the regions that will experience the fastest growth in the number of older persons in the next 3 decades. The need for advocacy for care and protection of elderly with dignity and value both systemically and among individual persons is higher than we think, especially when we recount gruesome incidences of cruelty and abuse of the elderly, and deplorable conditions of living which many elderly persons live in.

Can we qualify our democracy as acceptable and fitting for our times?

The political maturity of a nation is not only measured based on the eloquence of politicians, or their capacity to coerce by power, or by command, or threats; it is rather measured by the atmosphere prepared to allow for free and open expression of socio-economic and socio-political opinions without fear of being harmed by anyone.
